The 3^rd Meeting of BRICS SSL Cooperation Working Group (SSL-WG) was held on Nov. 16， 2016 at Beijing International Conference Center, in Beijing, China. 8 delegates from BRICS countries and around 30 audiences attended the meeting.

The meeting was organized by the Secretariat of ISA who acted as the Secretariat of WG

Dr. Jianlin Cao, the former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology(MOST) of China, on behalf of MOST delivered the welcome address.

He mentioned that 3-5years is only an instant in human history while the SSL industry had been witnessed a big progress. He expected that the 2016 output of China SSL industry would be 500 billion RMB which was beyond the expectation a few years ago. He further expected that output of China SSL industry would be 1000 billion by the end of the 13th five year plan. He introduced that SSL industry had been considered by Chinese government as an emerge strategic industry and support by the central and local governments.

He encouraged the BRICS to strengthen the cooperation in SSL field taking the advantage of this platform and to promote the SSL as an important industry in their respective countries. He also committed himself to contribute more energy and time to concern and support this industry.

An official from the Department of International Cooperation of MOST attended this meeting.

8 representatives from BRICS countries gave presentations on the SSL industry development and market new trends, the policies of SSL development, SSL industry strategies and cooperation, etc. in their respective country.

"Brazil LED Standardization and Testing Development"-by Mr. Alexandre Cricci, Brazilian Association of the Lighting Products Importers (ABILUMI), Brazil. 

 "A new approach c of revealing of unreliable blue LEDs without long-term tests"- by Dr. Anton Chernyakov, Submicron Heterostructures for Microelectronics Research and Engineering Center of RAS.

 "SSL industry development and market new trends in Russia"-by Mr. Evgeny Dolin, General Director of LEDs and LED-based Systems Russian Manufacturer's Nonprofit partnership (NPRPSS). 

"The New Opportunity in SSL Industry Developments, Market and Cooperation"-by Mr. Shyam Sujan, Secretary General of Electric Lamp and Component Manufacturers Association of India (ELCOMA).

"China SSL Industry Development Status and Trends 2016"-by Dr. Ruan JUN, Deputy Secretary-General China Solid State Lighting Alliance (CSA).

 "South Africa SSL STI Strategies, Standards and Labeling"-by Dr. Rebecca Maserumule, Department of Science and Technology of South Africa.

  "SSL industry developments and updates"-by Mr. Barry Bredenkamp, Senior Manager of Energy Efficiency, South African National Energy Development Institute.

A Q/A discussions followed by each presentation.

The Secretariat of BRICS SSL-WG (the Secretariat of ISA) introduced the services and organizational work asked by the members of WG over the past year.

The afternoon session focused on the specific cooperation among this WG

Dr, Crane from the WG Secretariat presented a “Working Progress Report 2016” which mainly includes two testing cooperation, a joint R & D project applications, two working visits, five MOUs, three seminars.

Dr. Cheng QIAN, from China State Key Lab of SSL(SKL), presented the “Progress Update of the Research on Accelerated Lifetime Tests of LED lighting products”.

 Prof. Jinming Pan of Department of Bio-systems Engineering, Zhejiang University and Intelligent Bio-industrial Equipment Innovation Team, Zhejiang University presented “Special LED Lighting for Poultry Production: Research and Extension”.

The presentations followed by intensive discussions between the speakers and the floor. India, South Africa, Russia expressed their interests on this LED lighting system used in poultry production.

The moderator then summarized ten specific cooperation aspects/projects among the members of the WG.

The representatives of WG had also invited to participate in a number of ISA activities includes ISA 2016 General Assembly, the ISA Award Ceremony of the Outstanding Achievement for Global SSL Development, the ISA 10TH Meeting of Technical Committee of Standardization, The Opening Ceremony of SSLCHINA 2016.

The delegates visited Beijing Leyard Optoelectronic Co., Ltd. on the afternoon of Nov. 18 and had a round table discussion with Mr. Deniel Jiang, Vice President of Leyard.
