The 4th Meeting

The 4th Meeting of BRICS SSL Collaboration Working Group (SSL-WG) was held on June 19th-25th in Hangzhou, The first session was held at Inventronics Science and Technology Park in Hangzhou, China on June 19th. 22 delegates from Ministry of Science and Technology, Research Institute, and SSL Associations of BRICS countries including delegates from Vietnam, Thailand as observers about 60 experts, CEOs and R&D staffs attended this session. The 4th Meeting of BRICS SSL Collaboration Working Group (SSL-WG) was last 6 days including workshops, visiting a number of companies, dialogues, find more R&D and business opportunities in Hangzhou municipality.

The meeting was organized by ISA and the Secretariat of BRICS SSL-WG.

 

Mr. Xiaoming JIN, the former Director General of Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of China, on behalf of the MOST delivered an opening speech.

He points out that the BRICS countries, not only experience different stages of development in SSL, but also display different strengths and weakness in SSL R&D, and difference applications requirements. Nevertheless this divergence brings along potential opportunities and urgency for BRICS cooperation.

 

He said that this working group has achieved quite a lot of progress since its first Meeting, which has resulted in fruitful follow ups in SSL development, particularly the cooperation research of SSL standards and testing methods. Now several cooperation agreements and proposals among our BRICS countries have been reached in this very Group. Such as LED product accelerate testing method in various environments and its cooperation research has already been launched between China and Russia. Also the cooperation MOU between the China and India was signed and the concrete actions have been actively followed up. With South Africa, five MOUs have been signed. In addition to the R&D cooperation a number of thematic seminars, workshops have been held in Russia, India, Brazil and South Africa. The international SSL forum and TCS11 in Cape Down this past May had scored a great success. All these concrete outcomes have been delivered by this BRICS cooperation Group.

 

Mr. Lei FENG, the Deputy Director of Hangzhou Municipal Science and Technology Committee of Hangzhou Municipal Government, delivered his welcome address. He welcomed the delegates from BRICS countries. He pointed out that Hangzhou has been brought to the world stage and won the new development opportunities after the G20 summit in Sep. 2016. More importantly, HangZhou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government pay great importance on the development of LED, and put the SSL industry as one of the strategy emerging industries of Hangzhou. He hoped all the delegates have a good staying in Hangzhou.

Dr. Guichao HUA, the President and CEO of Inventronics, expressed his welcome to the delegates from BRICS countries and delegates from Vietnam, Thailand as observers, and felt very honored to have this opportunity to host this BRICS SSL WG meeting today and tomorrow, and he looked forward to have the deep communications with the delegates during their visit.

13 delegates from BRICS countries gave presentations on the SSL industry development and market new trends, the policies of SSL development, SSL industry strategies and cooperation, etc. in their respective country.
