At the invitation of Vietnam Lighting Association (VLA), the delegation of International SSL Alliance (ISA) Secretariat visited VLA, and Rang Dong Light Source and Vacuum Flask Joint Stock Company of Vietnam (RD Company) on April 20-22, 2017, and attended the annual meeting of VLA.

 

1. Visited RD Company

RD Company is the largest manufacturer of lighting products in Vietnam, which has about 2,300 employees, whose main plant is in Hanoi City, branch plant in the suburb. The company was originally state-owned, after the reform and opening up, it turned into a joint-stock company.

 

Now, RD Company produces kinds of LED lamps (bulb, down light, tube lamp) with a scale of total 18 million, CFL 50 million, straight tube fluorescent lamp 25 million., Its annual revenue is about 1 billion RMB in year of 2016. LED has not yet been its flagship products. At present, the production lines cover CFL module production, energy-saving lamp drive power, LED chip mounter machine, wave soldering machine and connector manual assembling line, etc. and the equipment of which is mainly from Japan and the United States.

 

ISA Secretariat introduced the current status and development of SSL in China to the team of management and technology of RD Company.

 

2. Visited VLA

VLA was established in 2003, with members of 170, which covered almost all large and medium-sized enterprises of Vietnam engaged in manufacture, installation and trade of traditional lighting and LED lighting.

 

Dr. Nguyen Hong Tien, the Director General of Administration of Technical Infrastructure of Ministry of Construction of Vietnam, is the president of VLA. Mr. Nguyen Dong Thang, the Director General of RD Company, is the Permanent Vice President of VLA. The VLA secretariat is in RD Company.

 

VLA holds its General Assembly every year. This year it was held in Ninh City and about 100 participants attended this meeting. An exhibition was held during the meeting.

 

ISA Secretariat was invited to address in the opening ceremony of the General Assembly, and an introduction on ISA’s work and activities was also presented during the section of keynote speech.

 

ISA Secretariat briefed VLA on the recommended standards adopted by ISA TCS (the Technical Committee of Standardization) for accelerated testing, specification interfaces, etc. as well as their applications in related countries. The head of VLA expected to get the standard text as soon as possible and to promote their application in Vietnam.  VLA also expressed its desire to join in ISA, and made a wish to sign a memorandum of cooperation with ISA.

 

SSL Lighting market in Vietnam is at its early stage of development and formation and the members of VLA expressed their willingness of international cooperation.
