ISA General Assembly 2016 was held on Nov. 15 at Beijing International Conference Center, in Beijing, China with more than 70 participants.

 

The meeting was moderated by Mr. Carlos Lee, the member of ISA Council of Management.

 

Madam Wu Ling, the president of ISA, delivered the welcome address.

 

Section 1: Working Reports

 

Prof. Guoqi Zhang, the co-chair of ISA Board of Advisors, professor of Delft University of Technology gave a brief report on the 8th ISA Executive Member Meeting.

 

The 8th ISA Executive Member Meeting made the following decisions included to adopt Mr. Siegfried Luger, the President of Luger Research Institute as the member of ISA BOA. 

-The Supplement of the member of BOA         

- The Global Lighting Forum in 2017      

- ISA Global SSL Industrial Report 2017       

- The Extension of the incumbent Chairman and the term of the TCS Chairmanship       

- ISA Add Value      

- The Payment of the Membership Fee

 

The Secretary General of ISA, reported the meeting of ISA work including the organization and support to ISA TCS Work, ISA industry report of 2015-2016, six meetings (in China, Russia, Brazil, Austria, and India), three new members, two SSL awards, and the plan of next year.

 

Mr. Alex Baker, Chair of ISA TCS, briefed the progress of TCS works in 2016 (TCS8,TCS9) to the ISA members and experts.

 

 

Dr. Norman Bardsley introduced the ISA Global SSL Industry Report 2015-2016.

 

Section 2: The Way Forword

Mr. Frank Hohn, Vice President of Osram, gave a presentation of “The Tendency and Opportunity of LED Industry”.

 

Ms. Ye Feng, Senior Director of Open Innovation, Philips Lighting China & Asia gave a presentation of "Lighting & IoT”.

 

Section 3: ISA Awards

 

3.1. Introducation of the Global SSL Showcase Top 100

 

Porf. Warren Julian on behalf of the Jury panel introduced the Award of Outstanding Achievement for Global SSL Development and the winners in 2016 are prof. Russell Dean Dupuis and prof. Harald Haas.

 

 

Prof. Istvan Barsony, member of ISA Board of Advisors, professor of Hungarian Acadeny of Science, and director of Research Institute for Technical Physics and Materials Science, on behalf of ISA, announced the winners of the award of the Global SSL Showcase Top100 in 2016.

 

Representatives from the organizations whose project had won the TOP 100 award received the award certificates.

3.2 Award ceremony for the Award of Outstanding Achievements for Global SSL Development

 

The award ceremony of AOA was held on the afternoon of Nov. 15 during the opening session of 13th China International Forum on Solid State Lighting (SSLCHINA 2016). Prof. Warren Julian, member of Council of Management, emeritus professor of University of Sydney, introduced the two laureates of this award.

 

 

The first laureate is prof. Russell Dean Dupuis, and he is a professor of Georgia Institute of Technology, and was elected to the U.S. National Academy of Engineering in 1988.

 

 

Dr. Jianlin CAO, former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, handed over the award medals and certificates to Prof. Russell Dupuis.

 

      

 

Prof. Russell Dupuis gave his award acceptance speech impromptu.

 

   

 

The second laureate is prof. Harald Haas, and he is a professor of University of Edinburgh, and is co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of pure LiFi Ltd as well as the Director of the LiFi Research and Development Center at the University of Edinburgh.

                            

 

  Prof. Shuji Nakamura, Nobel Laureate in Physics 2014, handed over the award medals and certificates to Prof. Harald Haas.

 Prof. Harald Haas gave his award acceptance speech impromptu.

                   

3.3 Membership certificate ceremony for new ISA members

 

The Membership Certificate Ceremony for new ISA Members was held on Nov. 15 during ISA 2016 General Assembly.

 

There are 3 new members joined ISA this year and members of ISA Council of Management delivered the Certificate of Membership to the 3 new members.
