ISA General Assembly 2017 was held on Nov. 1 at Hilton Beijing Capital Airport, in Beijing, China, with more than 80 participants.

 

The meeting was moderated by Professor Istvan Barsony, member of ISA Board of Advisers, the former director of Inst. Techn. Phys. & Mat. Science – MFA.

 

Dr. Jianlin Cao, the president of ISA, the former vice minister of Ministry of Science and Technology of China, delivered the welcome address.

 

He first welcomed everyone to this ISA family reunion, and expressed his appreciation to the members’ and experts’ involvement and support.

 

He pointed out that as a former vice minister of Ministry of Science and Technology of China, he has witnessed the development history of global SSL, and more deeply felt the promotion of economic development and the contribution to the people's better life of SSL as a disruptive technology. He said he was confident about the prospects of SSL.

 

He emphasized that ISA will provide more and more valuable services to all members. Your success is the success of ISA, the success of ISA is also your success. I hope that you all would actively participate in the activities of ISA and give ISA more guidance and support.

 

Section 1: Working Reports

1.    Prof. Guoqi Zhang, the co-chair of ISA Board of Advisors, professor of Delft University of Technology, entrusted by ISA Council of Management, gave a brief report on the 9th ISA Executive Member Meeting which was held on Oct. 31attended by the members of ISA Council of Management and ISA Board of Advisers.

 2.    The Co-secretary General of ISA, presented ISA 2017 Annual Report, including:

1)    the work of ISA TCS( the conclusions of TCS11 and TCS12, and the introduction of new chairman of TCS);

2)    two ISA SSL reports of 2017;

3)    a number of meetings (in China, South Africa,etc.);

4)    six new members;

5)    three SSL awards 2017, and

6)    the plan of next year.

 

3.    Dr. Norman Bardsley introduced the ISA SSL Report 2017

1)    LiFi – The Catalyst for New LED Application, 2017 Volume One

2) Applications of Solid State Lighting to Horticulture, 2017 Volume Two

 

Section 2: The Way Forward

1.    Mr. Yongdong Zhou, Huawei Tech, presented “Build the City IoT with Smart Street Lighting”.

Section 3: ISA Awards Ceremony and Issue the Membership Certificates

1.   Porf. Warren Julian on behalf of the Jury panel introduced the Global SSL Award of Outstanding Achievement and the award ceremony of AOA was held on the afternoon of Nov. 1 during the opening session of 14th China International Forum on Solid State Lighting (SSLCHINA 2017).

The first laureate was International Commission on Illumination (CIE).

Prof. Warren Julian introduced the reason for awarding, and mentioned that CIE in the past decade made outstanding scientific contributions to application of Solid State Lighting (SSL), through published standards, technical reports, and scientific conferences. These efforts and achievements have contributed significantly to the global SSL development and application.

Dr. Jianlin CAO, the president of ISA, former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, handed over the award medal and certificate to the representative of CIE, and the president of CIE, Dr. Yoshi Ohno.

Dr. Yoshi Ohno, standing for CIE, delivered an impromptu acceptance speech.

The second laureate was Madam Ling Wu.

 

Prof. Warren Julian introduced the reason for awarding, and mentioned that Madam Ling Wu has made exceptional contribution to pushing forward, organizing and implementing the development and application of SSL in China. These efforts and achievements have also contributed to the global SSL development and application directly or indirectly.

 

Prof. Istvan Barsony, member of ISA Board of Advisers, presented the medal and the certificate to Madam Ling Wu.

 

Madam Ling Wu delivered an impromptu acceptance speech.

 

2.    Professor Jinmin Li, member of ISA Board of Advisors, on behalf of ISA, announced the winners of the award of Global SSL Showcase Top100 2017.
