The ISA General Assembly 2021 was held in the form of webinar on November 18, 2021 at 18:00 (Beijing time). More than 150 ISA members and non-members representatives from more than 10 countries attended the meeting.

The meeting was moderated by Prof. Warren Julian, member of ISA Council of Management, Emeritus Professor of University of Sydney.

Dr. Jianlin Cao, President of ISA delivered his welcome address. 

               

He expressed at the outset his gratitude to those who came to attend the meeting and wished everyone all good health during the pandemic.  

He pointed out that ISA's work has also been hampered by COVID-19 pandemic, however, many activities had been carried out by ISA this year.

 First, new progress had been made in the cooperation with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). ISA had been confirmed that the highest level of liaison (Category A) had been officially established with ISO. ISA Technical Committee on Standardization (TCS) held two meetings as scheduled.  

 

Second, in accordance with the ISA Council of Managment’s development direction for the next 10 years, the ISA Agricultural Lighting Committee was established to carry out global exchanges and cooperation in the application of LiFi, Micro-LED, UV in COVID-19 prevention and control and disease prevention and control.  

 

Third, Elected winners of Global SSL Award of Outstanding Achievement (AOA), and also selected the winners of  “Global SSL Award of Industry Development Outstanding Contribution ” (IDOC) (2021) and the “Global SSL Award of Innovations Top100” (Innovations TOP100) (2021) for the first time.

 

Fourth, Published the industry report “Progress of GaN-on-Si Visible Light LED and Pure LED Lighting Technology”.

 

The above achievements had been scored by the guidance of the Council of Management and the active participation and support of ISA members.  He expressed his heartfelt thanks to everyone. 

He introduced that the theme of the ISA General Assembly this year was agricultural lighting, agricultural lighting was an emerging field, together with “Beyond lighting” and other fields, it would expand the boundary of SSL. Agricultural lighting would provide higher quality, more varieties of edible products for the people and would open up a new avenue for providing food for humans and feed for livestock. Its huge market would also promote the development of SSL manufacturing industry chain.

 

He pointed out that the COVID-19 pandemic was still existed and the industry needed to grow. ISA's mission was to foster a more appropriate “eco-system” for the sustainable development of the global SSL and its application and to provide members with more valuable services. He believed that as long as we had the courage to innovate, forged ahead and made joint efforts, we would create new brilliant SSL.

 

At the end, he wished the meeting a complete success.

 

The meeting was proceeded with the following three parts:

Part one: Working Reports

1. The Report of the 13th ISA Executive Member Meeting (EMM13) 

Prof. Robert Karlicek, member of ISA Council of Management, The Chairman of ISA-ECC Smart Street Lighting System Specialized Committee, the Director of Center for Lighting Enabled Systems & Applications, USA. Professor of Electrical, Computer and Systems Engineering Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, USA was commissioned by the EMM 13 to deliver the report.

 

1.1 The 13th ISA Executive Member Meeting was held on 16 November 2021 in the form of webinar. Dr. Jianlin Cao, President of ISA, 3 members of ISA COM, 6 members of ISA BOA and staff of ISA Secretariat attended the meeting.

 

1.2 Adopted the ISA Working Report 2021 made by ISA Secretariat at the meeting.

1.3 The EMM 13 adopted the following resolutions:

1.3.1 3 ISA new members had been approved by the 13th ISA Executive Member Meeting .

-Hangzhou Langtuo Biotechnology Co., Ltd.  

-Tuya Inc., &

-4D Bios Corp.

1.3.2 The current Executive Members (EMs) and their respective representative who consisted the 4th tenure of ISA COM (Jan. 2022-Dec.2024) had been approved by the 13th ISA Executive Member Meeting.

 

1.3.3 Prof. Qun Yan , Dr. Guichao Hua, Prof. Qichang Yang had been approved as the new members of ISA Board of Advisors.

1.3.4 Establish the “ISA Agricultural Lighting Committee”. Appointed Dr. Gary Hua, Founder and Chairman of Inventronics Inc. Founder and Chairman of 4D Bios Corp. and Prof. Qichang Yang, Executive Director General of Institute of Urban Agriculture, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), as the Co-Chairs of ISA Agricultural Lighting Committee. The tenure of the Chairman would be 3 years (Jan. 2022- Jan.2025). Working groups would be established in light of needs . These who want to be the members of ISA Agricultural Lighting Committee could apply voluntarily and filled out a form for participation. ISA members were preferred.

 

1.3.5 The ISA Financial Report 2021 had been approved by the 13th ISA Executive Member Meeting.

1.3.6 The ISA Work Plan 2022 had been approved by the 13th ISA Executive Member Meeting.

 

1.4 ISA TCS Working Report 2021  

 

Dr. Yoshi Ohno, Member of ISA Board of Advisors, Past President of CIE, Chairman of ISA TCS made a working report of the Technical Committee on Standardization, including two TCS meetings, the cooperation with other international standardization organizations (ISO and CIE), as well as seeking suggestions and voting on ISA Recommendations and future work plan.

The Co-Secretary General of ISA, presented ISA 2021 Annual Report which including:

Part two: SSL in Agriculture

Prof. Tran Quoc Khanh, TU Darmstadt, Germany, Member of ISA Board of Advisors chaired this session.

1.      Dr. Norman Bardsley, ISA Chief Analyst made a presentation on “Global SSL Industry Development and Market Trends on Agriculture”.

 

2.      Dr. Morgan Pattison, President of Solid State Lighting Services, USA made a presentation on “Energy Savings Potential of SSL in Agricultural Applications ”.

 

3.      Mr. Sc. Jens Balasus of TU Darmstadt, Germany made a presentation on “Some aspects of research and technology in the SSL-agriculture ”.

 

4. Dr. Gary Hua, Founder and Chairman of Inventronics Inc. Founder and Chairman of 4D Bios Corp.and Member of ISA BOA made a presentation on “SSL as Horticulture Lighting for Plant Growth”.

5. Dr. Christian Hochfilzer , General Manager of SANlight Solution GmbH, Austria made a presentation on “How to optimize SSL-solutions for the controlled environment agriculture”.

 

6.  Mr. Feng Ou, Researcher of CAS Center for Molecular Plant Science, China made a presentation on “SSL Application on Forage Grass”.

7. Prof. Ying Liu , Zhejiang University, China made a presentation on “SSL Application and Development on Controlled Environment Aquaculture”.

 

Part three: ISA Award Ceremony

 

Prof. Warren Julian, Emeritus Professor of University of Sydney, Australia Member of ISA Council of Management moderated  this session and announced the winners of three Awards：Global SSL Award of Outstanding Achievements (AOA), Global SSL Award of Industry Development Outstanding Contribution (IDOC) and Global SSL Award of Innovations Top100 (Innovations TOP100).
