Invitation for ISA Global LiFi Summit 2026

Dear ISA members and related entities:

The 2026 ISA Global LiFi Summit (ISAGLiFiS) will be held jointly with the 2026 14th International Conference on Intelligent Computing and Wireless Optical Communications (ICWOC 2026) . We cordially invite interested ISA members and relevant organizations to participate.

Conference Date: May 15–17, 2026

Meeting location: Nanjing Shangqinhuai International Cultural Exchange Center (No. 68, Mozhou East Road, Jiangning District, Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province)

Hosted by: Southeast University, China; International Solid-State Lighting Alliance (ISA) LiFi

Committee

Co-hosted byChongqing University, China; Southwest Jiaotong University, China

Sponsored by School of Information Science and Engineering, Southeast University, China

Technically co-supported by IEEE and IEEE Photonics Society.

Experts and scholars from China, the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and other countries will be invited to attend the conference.  Professor Harald Haas—the “father of LiFi”, Director of the ISA LiFi Committee (a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in the UK, Van Eck Professor of Engineering at the University of Cambridge, Director of the UK LiFi Research and Development Centre (LRDC), and Founder and Chief Scientist of PureLiFi). will deliver a keynote speech and chair some sessions.

This conference is the fifth global meeting hosted by the ISA liFi Committee, and it is also the

second offline conference aims to bring together top experts from around the globe in the fields of LiFi and wireless optical communications, fostering in-depth exchanges on key technological breakthroughs since the release of the IEEE 802.11bb standard in 2024, as well as progress in industrial implementation and integrated innovative applications. The conference will focus on exploring and applying LiFi in high-value scenarios such as smart manufacturing, undersurface communication, intelligent vehicles, and security, while also examining synergistic development paths with 5G-A and 6G integrated sensing and communication  technologies. Through keynote speeches, roundtable discussions, and interactive sessions, the conference will encourage close collaboration among upstream and downstream players in the industry chain as well as cross-industry partners, jointly building an open, robust, and sustainably developed global wireless optical communications ecosystem that delivers tangible value to participants.

This conference will also showcase and promote Chinese LiFi companies, their products, and application scenarios to a global audience. The conference will feature an exhibition area for products and companies; companies interested in participating may contact the ISA Secretariat.

The Background of the ISA Global LiFi SummitISA GLiFiS

Visible Light Communication, also known as Light Fidelity (LiFi), is a novel wireless transmission technology that uses visible light to transmit data. It was developed by Harald

Professor Harald Haas first proposed it. Professor Haas is hailed by the global LiFi community as the “Father of LiFi.”

LiFi is a novel wireless communication technology that uses semiconductor light sources as signal transmitters and leverages the unlicensed free optical spectrum to achieve wireless connectivity. It supports high-density device connections and ultra-high-speed data transmission. LiFi communication technology has the potential to serve as the “nervous system” for future AI-driven automated systems, greatly boosting the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The integration of LiFi with 5G/6G technologies will deliver faster speeds and greater capacity for mobile broadband connections, opening up even broader application possibilities. In this context, LiFi communication technology will help diversify the fundamental functions of the lighting industry and provide new business models for related fields, including smart homes, smart cities, Industry 4.0, healthcare, and the Internet of Things.

In response to the needs of ISA members and to promote the global LiFi development as well as foster global LiFi eco-system ISA established the LiFi Committee in November 2020, with Professor Haas serving as the committee’s chair. The “ISA Global LiFi Summit” was held on January 26–27, 2021; February 16–17, 2023; March 11–12, 2024; and November 5–6, 2025 (either online or on site). Representatives from research institutes, renowned universities, and related enterprises from nearly twenty countries around the world—including China, the United Kingdom, the United States, France, the Netherlands, Japan, Israel, Austria, Hungary, Brazil, Russia, South Africa, India, Chile, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Myanmar participated in these conferences. The total number of attendees exceeded 500.
