l 6000Hours to 2000Hours. The accelerated luminous depreciation method for LED lamp/luminaire level products has been released recently as a standard-CSA020 which can reduce the lifetime test from 6000 hours to less than 2000 hours.
l Speed up new LED products to Market. New LED products can be introduced to market much faster and make sure the customers receive latest products; also, it will help LED manufactures to be more actively involved in developing better LED products for better cash flow potentials.
l Eliminating poor quality LEDs. In addition, the newly developed accelerated test can eliminate those products with either poor LED sources, or poor system thermal design, or poor electronics system (including driver system) that cannot sustain sufficient temperature storage period.
l Enhance customers’ confidence on LED products. Low quality LED products have been damaging the overall images of LED technologies and products by dumping poor quality LEDs into the market with too low prices, this cannot be solved unless the standards for LEDs are developed and applied. CSA020 is the standard that helps solve this very issue and help qualified LED products be introduced to market in time and without any unnecessary delay.
l Global adoption and application. This standard (CSA020) has been published and in application in world’s largest LED market: Chinese LED market, and it will be upgraded to global adoption and application through the platform of International SSL Alliance (ISA)’s Technical Committee on Standardization (TCS), which can benefit the whole SSL industry worldwide.
Energy saving performance and environmental and impacts
Assume 4000 LED lamp/luminaire manufacturers, each annually evaluated 3 new products with lifetime test, typically 5W, 10W and 30W respectively. Sample size is 12 for each product. Using 55deg.C as the accelerated ambient temperature and the expected lifetime is 25000 hours. The electricity saving annually is 10,152,000kWh.
Besides, this innovative test method standard will significantly ensure the availability of latest LED products in the market, which means the results of energy savings will be achieved much faster.

Significance and challenges
Challenges: It will take at least 6000 hours using Energy Star‘s test procedure to perform product level lifetime test. Such a test time, which is almost 9 months, also is too long to be practical in fast growing LED industries.
Significance: The accumulated acceleration test time depends on the accelerated ambient temperature and the expected life. In contrast with Energy Star’s 6000 hours, for a given expected life 25000 hours, using 55deg.Cas the accelerated ambient temperature, the accumulated acceleration test time is1300 hours, which means a time saving of around 6~7 months.
And it’s the world’s first accelerated luminous depreciation test method standard, published and in application, more and more high quality LED products will be able to enter market sooner with more application of this standard.
