In the post-epidemic era, SSL is facing new development opportunities. To echo the needs of industry and ISA members, ISA 2022 General Assembly invite the Global leading experts in relevant fields centering the theme of “Beyond Lighting” to present the status quo, latest R&D achievements, challenges and development trends in their respective fields from a comprehensive perspective. They are:

 

Prof. Harald Haas (Chairman of Mobile Communications Research Committee, University of Strathclyde, UK, Director of LiFi Research and Development Centre (LRDC)，Founder and Chief Scientist of PureLiFi, Chairman of ISA LiFi Committee, Member of ISA Board of Advisors) will introduce the relationship between LiFi and 6G. He will report on a 100 Gbps LiFi demonstration at CES 2022 using laserlight. He will provide results of LiFi in conjunction with solar cell receivers to support the growing internet of things by enabling power and data transfer at the same time. Moving on, he will demonstrate how this technology can be used to build affordable long-range free-space optical systems. Lastly, he will introduce LiFi reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) which may be the next frontier in LiFi systems.

 

Prof. Qun Frank YAN (Treasurer, Society for Information Display (SID), Director, SID Beijing Chapter Foreign Academician of the Russian Academy of Engineering, Distinguished Professor, Fuzhou University, China, Chairman of ISA Micro-LED Committee, Member of ISA Board of Advisors) will introduce the latest progress in R&D and the application of Micro-LED in the past year, include tackling the "bottleneck" issues, the analysis of market application prospects, and the judgment of development trends.

 

Prof. Robert Karlicek (Professor, Electrical, Computer and Systems Engineering, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, USA, Director, Center for Lighting Enabled Systems & Applications (LESA), Co-Director, Institute for Energy, Built Environment and Smart Systems (EBESS), Chairman of ISA-ECC Smart Street Lighting System Specialized Committee, Member of ISA Council of Management) will introduce the latest progress of internet lighting in the United States, the overall development status, challenges and development trends of indoor intelligent/connective lighting.

Mr. Daniel Rong (Senior Director of International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), Senior Director, Delos Labs, US) will present the overall content of the WELL project, introducing the requirements and concerns of lighting companies to enter building market from a modern architectural perspective.

 

Dr. Norman Bardsley (Specialist of SSL WG of U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), CEO of Bardsley Consulting, ISA Chief Analyst) will introduce the development status of the global SSL industry in the past two years, combine technology innovation and energy efficiency demand, and analyze the future development trend of the global SSL industry.

 

The above introduction aims to share information with members, to help catch up the dynamic development, and inspire ISA members to join in the new “track”, take up initiative in the new “highland”, access the market in the “new link” of the industrial chain, and promote the further development of global SSL in the new phase.

 

The winners of ISA “Global SSL Award of Outstanding Achievements” (AOA), “Global SSL Award of Industry Development Outstanding Contribution” (IDOC) and “Global SSL Award of Innovations Top100” (Innovations TOP100) will be announced at the meeting, and the meeting will also award IDOC winners.

 

The ISA 2022 General Assembly will be held on Nov. 3, 2022 from 18:00-21:10 (Beijing Time).  The meeting will be conducted online (Webinar by Zoom) due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
