The ISA General Assembly 2024 was held on Nov. 20, 2024 at Suzhou International Expo Center, Suzhou, China. About 50 ISA members and some non-members attended the meeting in the form of offline and online.
Madam Ling WU, Member of ISA Council of Management, President of China Advanced Semiconductor Industry Innovation Alliance (CASA), Prof. Jinmin LI, Chairman of ISA UV LED Committee, Member of ISA EMM, Former Director of Institute of Semiconductors, CAS, Dr. Yoshi Ohno, Chairman of ISA TCS, Member of ISA EMM, CIE Past President, NIST Fellow of National Institute of Standards and Technology, USA, Dr. Norman Bardsley, ISA Chief Analyst, CEO of Bardsley Consulting, USA and Mr. Xiaoming JIN, Co-Secretary General of ISA, Former Director General, Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Science and Technology, China attended the meeting.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Yoshi Ohno.
Madam Ling WU, delivered the welcome address on behalf of Dr. Jianlin CAO, President of ISA.
She pointed out that the resilience of the economy lies in its underlying logic. SSL, as a consumer product, was an essential need for modern living. The digital and intelligent era had introduced new demands for the development of SSL, leading to more segmented markets, larger market opportunities, and additional competitive tracks. This should give us ample confidence. In the first half of 2024, as the effects of macroeconomic policies continue to unfold, market demand was expected to recover steadily, and industrial production in the lighting industry was projected to grow steadily. It was anticipated that China’s export value of lighting products in the first half of 2024 would slightly exceed the level of the same period last year.
Regarding the recent development trends in SSL, she pointed out:
1. China had become the global center of SSL development.
2. The SSL industry was undergoing a “reshuffling,” with new “tracks” continuously emerging, and “beyond lighting” was becoming the new “battleground.”
3. The SSL industry must seize opportunities and embrace the progress of the times.
Finally, she concluded that global lighting could not thrive without China, and the development of China's SSL industry was inseparable from the global context. China had become the world's leading source of SSL technology. Chinese SSL technologies and products would continue to contribute to global energy conservation, emission reduction, and green development.
