1. Introduction to the conference

In the past two years, the research and development of visible light communication had continued to make progress, new fields and scene applications had made breakthroughs, commercialization prospects were becoming more and more clear, and the ecology of visible light communication has been taking its shape. Visible light communication is a huge opportunity for the photoelectric industry and the communication industry, and will become an important part of 6G communication.

In order to promote exchanges and cooperation among peers in the field of global visible light communication, further promote  visible light communication technology innovation, application, manufacturing and process of device and product, help advanced semiconductor materials optoelectronic application to expand new directions and industrial upgrading, open up new fields of visible light communication application, and gradually form visible light communication industry chain, ISA will hold “The 3rd ISA Global Annual LiFi Conference” online on March 11-12, 2024.

The conference aims to understand the latest achievements of international peers, benchmark domestic research and development and application progress, explore new commercial application points, focus on the question-answering interaction between speakers and listeners, promote the formation of partnership, and bring value to participants.

The meeting will be chaired by Professor Harald Haas, Chair of the ISA LiFi Committee (Van Eck Professor of Engineering, University of Cambridge, UK, Director of the LiFi Research and Development Center (LRDC), Founder and Chief Scientist of PureLiFi, and member of the ISA Board of Advisors), 15 top experts from China, UK, France, Japan, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia and other countries in the field of LiFi research and application will  share their latest R&D findings and application results. The speeches will include: Breaking the boundaries of connectivity with LiFi, 6G kilohertz communication, building a 6G frame in MENA, a single narrow beam for high capacity and high user density wireless communication, high-speed InGaN light emitting devices for visible light communication, visible light communication with intelligent reflective surfaces, enhanced connectivity for mobile vehicles-Optimizing visible light communication signal connections with rolling image sensors focus on multiple access and mobility to optimize visible light communication network, beyond the traditional - orbital angular momentum to enable optical wireless communication and LiFi technology end product capabilities etc..

The meeting will provide simultaneous interpretation.

2. Background of the conference

Light Fidelity (LiFi), also known as “optical fidelity technology”, is a new wireless transmission technology that uses visible light for data transmission. It was first proposed by Harald Haas, distinguished professor of mobile communication and director of LiFi Research and Development Center at the University of Strathclyde, UK. Professor Harald Haas is thus known as the “Father of LiFi”.

LiFi is a new wireless communication technology that uses solid state lighting source as signal emission source and uses unlicensed free spectrum to realize wireless connection, supporting high-density device connection and ultra-high speed data transmission. LiFi communication technology has the potential to create the “nervous system” for future artificial intelligence (AI) -driven automation systems, which will greatly power the fourth industrial revolution. The integration of LiFi and 5G technology will provide faster and larger mobile broadband connections, and generate a broader application space. In this context, LiFi communication technology will help to realize the diversity of basic functions in the lighting industry and provide new business models for related fields, including smart home, smart city, Industry 4.0, health and Internet of things.

To echo the needs of ISA members, and to promote the development of the global LiFi industry, ISA LiFi Committee was established in November 2020 and Professor Harald Haas was the chairman of this committee. The ISA Global LiFi Annual Meeting held its first meeting on January 26-27, 2021 (online), and the second meeting on Feb. 16-17, 2023. Representatives of scientific research institutes, well-known universities and related enterprises from nearly 20 countries with more than 500 people around the world participated in the two-day meeting.
