The Invitation of ISA Global Annual LiFi Conference 2023
Release time: Jan 13, 2023

Dear ISA members and relevant organizations,

LiFi research has made continuous progress with many breakthroughs in applications in the past two years. The LiFi market is building and a technology eco-system of LiFi from  devices to new use cases is taking its shape. LiFi has been regarded as a great opportunity for both the lighting industry and the communication industry, which will become an important part of 6G communication. To promote the development of innovation and application of LiFi technology, facilitate the cross-border integration of optoelectronics and advanced semiconductor materials, International SSL Alliance (ISA) LiFi Committee will hold “ISA Global Annual LiFi Conference 2023” online by Zoom platform on February 16-17, 2023.

The speakers of this meeting will share their latest R&D achievements, innovative applications and the standard (IEEE 802.11bb) development of LiFi in the past two years.

It aims to jointly promote the global LiFi R&D process and its application in more fields, cultivate and align a rich technology eco-system for global LiFi development, and facilitate the formation of the global LiFi industry chain. The meeting will be divided into two parts: “Research and Innovation” and “Industry and Applications”.

The meeting will be chaired by Prof. Harald Haas, Chairman of Mobile Communications Research Committee, University of Strathclyde, UK, Director of LiFi Research and Development Centre (LRDC), Founder and Chief Scientist of PureLiFi, Chairman of ISA LiFi Committee, and Member of ISA Board of Advisors. The topics from the global LiFi research and application fields include:

Global research and development progress overview;

Latest progress of R&D;

The common technical challenges;

Industrial development and commercial application examples;

Look for wider international participation.

The speakers will introduce the following contents:

The update of LiFi Standardization Progress on IEEE 802.11bb;

The relationship between LiFi and 6G (international 6G research project has been launched, ITU-R IMT Vision 2030 is being developed);

Recent advances of light in wireless networks;

LiFi with Micro- LED Devices;

LiFi in Aircraft;

LiFi Indoor Applications;

LiFi IoT Applications;

LiFi in the Future Mobile Communication;

Energy efficiency comparison for LiFi communications.

ISA Secretariat herein would like to welcome ISA members, international research institutes, industry organizations, universities, advanced enterprises and other industry stakeholders to participate in this online meeting.

The meeting will provide simultaneous interpretation.

The provisional agenda and information of speakers of the meeting will be provided later.

If you are interested in this online meeting, please fill out the registration form (in the attachment) and send it back to Ms. JIN (jinzhao@isa-world.org, Tel: + 86-10-62607581), and we will send you the “Zoom” link by email one or two days before the meeting.

Background of the meeting

Light Fidelity (LiFi), also known as “optical fidelity technology”, is a new wireless transmission technology that uses visible light for data transmission. It was first proposed by Mr. Harald Haas, distinguished professor of mobile communication and director of LiFi Research and Development Center at the University of Strathclyde, UK. Professor Harald Haas is known as the “Father of LiFi”.

LiFi is a new wireless communication technology that uses solid state lighting source as signal emission source and uses unlicensed free spectrum to realize wireless connection, supporting high-density device connection and ultra-high speed data transmission. LiFi communication technology has the potential to create the “nervous system” for future artificial intelligence (AI) -driven automation systems, which will greatly power the fourth industrial revolution. The integration of LiFi and 5G technology will provide faster and larger mobile broadband connections, and generate a broader application space. In this context, LiFi communication technology will help to realize the diversity of basic functions in the lighting industry and provide new business models for related fields, including smart home, smart city, Industry 4.0, health and Internet of things.

To echo the needs of ISA members, and promote the development of the global LiFi industry, ISA LiFi Committee was established in November 2020 and Professor Harald Haas was the chairman of the committee. The ISA Global LiFi Annual Meeting held its first meeting on January 26-27, 2021 (online). Representatives of scientific research institutes, well-known universities and related enterprises from nearly 20 countries with more than 500 people around the world participated in the two-day meeting.
